OCT. 30, 1985: NEW PARTY NEEDED, VANDER ZALM SAYS
Former Social Credit cabinet minister Bill Vander Zalm said Tuesday sa国际传媒 needs a third political party with fresh ideas.
But Vander Zalm said in an interview he is still a member of the Social Credit party and won't be part of a third force because he's out of politics for the time being.
As for the job that Premier Bill Bennett's government is doing, Vander Zalm said it was just "okay."
Running a government these days isn't easy, he noted.
"Times are tough, especially in a province like British Columbia which is resource-oriented," said Vander Zalm, in Victoria for a Juan de Fuca Chamber of Commerce lunch at the Westwind Motor Inn.
A successful businessman and nursery owner on the Lower Mainland, Vander Zalm said he is painfully aware that over-regulation is suffocating free enterprise.
"I sort of sit on the outside and put up with all of the happenings on account of government, and all of the misfortunes that people suffer because of government and I fight my way through it like everyone else."
