Horgan died at Royal Jubilee Hospital on Nov. 12 after his third bout with cancer since 2008.

He served as premier from 2017 to 2022, leading the province through a pandemic, historic floods, wildfires and heat waves, before resigning his Langford-Juan de Fuca MLA seat in the spring of 2023.

He was appointed ambassador to Germany in November the same year, but in June 2024, he announced he was on leave from his position after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer in a routine check in Berlin.

He remained in a Berlin hospital for about five months before arriving at Royal Jubilee almost two weeks prior to his death.

The province says the memorial service will include religious components by Rev. Dr. Keith Howard, musical interludes and words of remembrance.
