The year of 2024 has passed into history, but you’re not out of time. You can still make a charitable donation that can be noted on your 2024 tax return.

It’s worth noting that the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Christmas Fund accepts donations every day of the year, not just during the well-publicized campaign every November and December.

For the next two months, for the first time ever, donations to our fund — as well as all the other charities out there — can make a difference on the previous year’s tax return.

Our annual campaign reached $1,190,059.78 on Tuesday afternoon, with money coming from 3,338 individuals, families and businesses. The total includes $10,000 from the Blenkin Higgins Foundation.

That is more than we have received in any previous campaign, and we expect our final count, including all funds donated by midnight on Tuesday, to take our campaign total to $1.2 million.

Thanks to all donors for helping is reach this level.

At the end of February, we will issue tax receipts for all donations received since January 2024 that haven’t already had receipts issued.

The sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Christmas Fund helps those in need through 55 community organizations.

The money we raise goes to charitable organizations that help those in need at Christmas and throughout the year.

The organizations were chosen with the help of volunteers in the local chapter of the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller.

They determined which charities needed money the most, and which ones are the most efficient with the money they receive.

We will provide updates on our Christmas fund in the weeks ahead.

Although our formal campaign is over, it’s still easy to donate to our fund.

To donate online, go to , which is linked to sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½Helps. That site is open 24 hours a day and provides an immediate tax receipt. Many people make small donations every month; it’s easy to set up the automatic deposit.

You could also write a cheque, and mail it to the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Christmas Fund, 201‑655 Tyee Rd., Victoria, sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ V9A 6X5, or drop it off at our office during business hours.

Our fund is only one of dozens of charities in Greater Victoria that you should consider.

Donations can make a difference in hundreds of ways, so we urge everyone to consider putting some of their money to work for others.

The deadline extension granted Monday because of the four-week postal strike means you can donate to the charity of your choice until Feb. 28, but please don’t delay.

Thanks again, to all of you — for your support, your generosity and your patience.
