The sa国际传媒 will be the new title sponsor for the Victoria stop on the PGA Tour Americas 2025 schedule, planned for Uplands Golf Club in September.

The open is a major international event, bringing some of the world’s best young golfers here. It will be the 15th stop on the 16-tournament tour that takes players to eight countries, six of them in South America.

The Victoria tournament will offer positive exposure for our region as well as another opportunity to bring the community together through sports.

Our sponsorship was announced this morning, along with another major sponsor. So let’s make it official: The full name of the event will be the sa国际传媒 Victoria Open, presented by Andrew Sheret Limited.

“A tournament of this calibre deserves strong community support,” says Julie Findlay, vice-president of Andrew Sheret Limited. “We are proud to play a key role in the open.”

The sa国际传媒 and Andrew Sheret Limited both have lengthy histories of community service and have worked together many times over the years.

Amor De Cosmos started our business in 1858 after he arrived from California, while Andrew Sheret started his wholesale plumbing company in 1892 when he came to Victoria from Scotland.

While the sa国际传媒 has had several owners over the years, Andrew Sheret Limited is a fourth-generation family business. It has seven locations on Vancouver Island, which include the Splashes Bath and Kitchen retail division.

Along with the golf tournament, the sa国际传媒 sponsors the annual TC10K and runs the sa国际传媒 Book Drive and Sale.

We have been involved with the local golf tournament since it was started, and we were the title sponsor for eight years, starting in 2004.

The Victoria Open was founded in 1981, and has been kept alive, through good times and bad, because of community involvement. That includes more than 50 sponsors — to be announced later — and more than 250 volunteers.

The event helps raise funds for charitable causes. This year, the community partner will again be Easter Seals British Columbia/Yukon, which runs Camp Shawnigan.

Former Victoria Open players who have gone on to the PGA Tour include Scott McCarron, Steve Stricker, Stuart Appleby, Kirk Triplett, Mike Weir, Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes and Tony Finau.

Oh, and there’s one more. Remember Nick Taylor, who played in the Victoria Open in 2009, 2010 and 2011? He won the Sony Open in Hawaii last weekend.

At the TC Victoria Open in September, you will have another chance for a sneak peek at the PGA’s stars of the future. See you there.
