The Malahat highway at Tunnel Hill has reopened to two-way traffic, the Ministry of Transportation said Friday night.
Work is continuing to repair extensive damage caused by Sunday and Monday’s heavy rainfall and flooding, but that work has progressed enough to allow two-way travel.
Depending on construction needs, there could still be intermittent closures and one-way travel.
Motorists should be prepared for construction-site conditions, including reduced speed, narrow lanes, limited shoulder, and no median barrier. Repairs will continue for several months.
The section of the Malahat from Tunnel Hill to West Shore Parkway had been restricted to alternating one-way travel since the beginning of the week, and was completely closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday.
