The Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District has set out dates for planned vaccination COVID-19 requirements for its employees.

Under new rules approved by board members at a Wednesday meeting, staff and contractors must tell the district by Feb. 18 if they are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. Those who do not will have the option to take twice-weekly rapid tests or an unpaid leave of absence.

The vaccination requirement comes into effect March 28, at the end of spring break, giving staff six weeks to get vaccinated. The requirement will last until June 30.

The district has close to 2,300 employees and about 147,000 students in 36 schools.
