Victoria residents are invited to learn more about plans to add protected bike lanes on Shelbourne Street at an information session today.

The city is holding an online session from noon to 1 p.m. to share information on plans to add one-way protected bike lanes on each side of Shelbourne between Haultain Street and North Dairy Road.

Construction is expected to take place in summer and fall this year.

The city says the project will close a major gap in the cycling network and give people in Victoria safer options to connect to new protected bike lanes being established by Saanich in its extensive restructuring of Shelbourne Street.

Parking on Shelbourne will be removed between Haultain and Hillside for safety reasons, the city says. Loading bays from Hillside to North Dairy will remain, with changes to the northbound lanes.

Saanich’s Shelbourne Street upgrade project, expected to be completed this fall, includes north and southbound protected bike lanes from North Dairy Road to Pear Street.

The first phase of the project included protected bike lanes on Shelbourne between McKenzie Avenue and Torquay Drive.

To attend Victoria’s online session, email the city at [email protected] or call 250-361-0300.

Another information session is planned for a pop-up at Oaklands Sunset Market at 2827 Belmont Ave. on July 3 from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
