West Shore RCMP arrested a man after finding a prohibited weapon during a wellness check in Langford on Wednesday.
Police said the check was made in the 700-block of Goldstream Avenue after a concerned citizen called to say a man was showing symptoms of being heavily under the influence of drugs.
They found a 36-year-old man matching the description they had been given and notice a collapsible baton beside him.
The baton is considered a prohibited weapon, police said.
The man was searched and police also found a folding knife and a replica handgun with ammunition.
He does not have prior weapon-related convictions and there were no reports of him using the weapons in a threatening manner, police said.
The man was held in custody until he sobered up and was released on conditions that he not possess any weapons and attend court when scheduled.
