Bank of Nova Scotia. (TSX:BNS). Financials. Down 94 cents, or 1.42 per cent, to $65.44 on 13.1 million shares.

TC Energy Corp. (TSX:TRP). Energy. Down 91 cents, or 1.64 per cent, to $54.44 on 12.0 million shares.

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. (TSX:CM). Financials. Down 95 cents, or 1.74 per cent, to $53.77 on 10.2 million shares.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Basic Materials. Down 19 cents, or 0.81 per cent, to $23.42 on 8.8 million shares.

Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (TSX:CNQ). Energy. Down $1.83, or 2.41 per cent, to $74.04 on 8.4 million shares.

Companies in the news:

First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TSX:FM). Basic Materials. Up 82 cents, or 2.94 per cent, to $28.67. First Quantum Minerals Ltd. said it is back in discussions with the government of Panama over a benefits sharing agreement as it looks to avoid a shutdown of its Cobre Panamá mine. Toronto-based First Quantum said on Dec. 16 that the government had cut off talks and ordered the mine closed, but now says discussions on increasing payouts from the mine restarted on Monday. First Quantum said that for now the mine is operating as normal, but that it received formal notification on Dec. 21 that it needs to submit a plan within 10 working days on how it plans to wind down operations. The company said it continues to do everything possible to support workers at the mine and to protect its investment, which totals more than US$10 billion over more than two decades in the country.
