TORONTO — Toronto is under a heat alert today, as much of southern Ontario gets a scorching blast of late summer heat.
The city’s medical officer of health issued the alert as the temperature is expected to reach 34 C, combined with humidity that will make it feel as though it’s over 40 C.
Members of the public are encouraged to take precautions to keep cool, such as drinking plenty of water, staying out of the sun and taking advantage of air-conditioning when possible.
People are also urged to check on neighbours and family members, especially children and vulnerable adults, and to never leave seniors, children or pets unattended in a car.
Environment sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ has warned that today may feel like the hottest day of the summer for much of southern Ontario, thanks to hot and humid air blowing in from the U.S. midwest.
Humidex values of 40 to 45 are expected in much of the southern part of the province.
