Young female police officers who went undercover are being credited with the arrest of a 15-year-old boy following an investigation into 16 sex assaults that have terrorized a Toronto neighbourhood since mid-August.
Toronto police said the youth, who cannot be identified, faces 14 counts of sexual assault and two counts of criminal harassment.
"We had women in our organization who put themselves in harm's way ... knowing that if they were successful in their mission, they could also be the victim of an assault," said police chief Bill Blair .
The accused, who was not known to police, was arrested at the scene of the latest incident on Oct. 20. He was detained without bail in youth court Monday.
