NAGOYA, Japan 鈥 The Canadian men鈥檚 short-track speedskating relay team won gold on the final day of competition at the ISU World Cup in Nagoya, Japan on Sunday.
The men鈥檚 relay team of Charles Hamelin, Pascal Dion, Jordan Pierre-Gilles and Steven Dubois finished the 5,000-metre distance in six minutes, 52.272 seconds.聽
China won silver and Hungary took bronze.聽
鈥淏efore the race, we told ourselves that we were going to win,鈥 said Dubois. 鈥淭hat's our objective for the year in the relay 鈥 aim for the gold and see what happens.鈥
Montreal鈥檚 Dion also won bronze in the men's 1,000 in 1:26.554 behind winner Ren Ziwei of China (1:26.297) and Itzhak de Laat of the Netherlands (1:26.533).
It's Dion's second bronze this season. The 27-year-old leads the men鈥檚 1,000-metre World Cup standings.聽
In the women鈥檚 1000 final, Courtney Sarault of Moncton finished fourth and Kim Boutin, from Sherbrooke, Que., was fifth.聽
American Kristen Santos won gold (1:30.013), while Dutch skaters Suzanne Schulting (1:30.077) and Xandra Velzeboer (1:30.089) won silver and bronze, respectively.聽
The next World Cup stop is Nov. 18-21 in Debrecen, Hungary.
