McGregor named captain of sa国际传媒's Para hockey team for upcoming Paralympics

Tyler McGregor has been named captain of sa国际传媒's Para hockey team for the upcoming Beijing Paralympics. It will be the third time the 27-year-old from Forest, Ont., has suited up for sa国际传媒 at the Paralympics.

Tyler McGregor has been named captain of sa国际传媒's Para hockey team for the upcoming Beijing Paralympics.

It will be the third time the 27-year-old from Forest, Ont., has suited up for sa国际传媒 at the Paralympics.

McGregor was an alternate captain on sa国际传媒's team four years ago in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The Canadians took home silver after an overtime loss to the United States in the final. He was third in scoring, with eight goals and five assists in five games.

He helped sa国际传媒 to a bronze medal at the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia.

McGregor, who grew up 400 metres from his neighbourhood rink, was a top triple-A player and heading into his Ontario Hockey League draft year when he was diagnosed with cancer. His leg was amputated the same day of the OHL draft.

He made his Para hockey debut in 2012.

鈥淚 am honoured to participate in my third Paralympics, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as captain on a team with so many great leaders that are worthy of this accomplishment,鈥 McGregor said in a release.

James Dunn of Wallacetown, Ont., Tyrone Henry of Ottawa and Liam Hickey of St. John鈥檚, N.L., were named alternate captains on Thursday. Dunn and Hickey will alternate wearing the 鈥楢鈥 throughout the tournament.

sa国际传媒 will kick of the Para hockey tournament March 5 against the United States.
