Comment: Too late for me, but track your health through your doctor

Keeping track of medical conditions on an ongoing basis, which has been near-impossible during the pandemic, can be a lifesaver, a terminal cancer patient warns. TIMES COLONIST

A commentary by a resident of Saanichton.

In December 2019, I had discomfort in my upper abdomen. My doctor ordered an ultrasound, a CAT scan and then an MRI on Christmas Day.

Results came back that it was a benign growth called hemangioma. It was 1.5 cm in my liver.

Then in 2020, COVID hit. Everyone was lined up rushing to get their shots, so monitoring did not happen, as I thought this growth was benign.

There was some discomfort around my back and chest in August 2021. I got an appointment with my GP.

She ordered an ultrasound and said that the locum would take care of it and contact me while she was away.

Several days later the locum phoned me and said there had been a misdiagnosis and it was cancer. He advised me to put my affairs in order and consider intervention.

After delays and an MRI, the surgeon has told me it is inoperable and I have six months to live. Apparently it is in both lobes of my liver, but has not yet spread to my bones or other organs.

I have been trying to get into the cancer clinic, but needed a referral before they could register me.

After 10 days the cancer clinic received my referral and I now have a registration number, and I’m waiting on the triage list.

Also the surgeon has said I’m eligible for the COVID booster shot, so that was scheduled for Oct. 31.

The nurses, technicians and medical staff have been wonderful at the hospitals in spite of the stress they’re under. They honour their profession in spite of many struggles.

This cancer cannot be cured. It is resistant to radiation, but the cancer clinic could help me with information and emotional support. Edema is collecting in my lower extremities as the liver is not processing the way it should.

After seeing my GP last week, the paperwork for my demise and how I want it handled is complete on my pending death.

The alien is growing and enveloping my liver. The other day I bought some dandelion tea, drank a cup at 1 p.m. By 6 p.m. numerous pains were encircling my upper torso. The alien did not like it.

This letter is for other people’s information. Track medical conditions as much as possible through your doctor. That may save your life.
