Many years ago, a young, enthusiastic, full-of-life student won the 800-metre run at the annual Sooke School District Track Meet. She won the event on guts and determination. It gave me goosebumps.
That young runner was Geri Bemister, a terrific student to teach and coach 鈥� so much promise.
I became aware of her challenges after leaving school and this surprised and saddened me. After reading the article, the images and emotions of that long ago Friday afternoon came alive 鈥� her guts and determination prevailed in a much bigger event. Thanks for stories like this.
