Apparently, I belong to the minority who voted in favour of electoral reform. I can鈥檛 say that I was thrilled by how the referendum was constructed.
It was confusing. It should have been simpler. It wasn鈥檛, but I can鈥檛 imagine anyone with even an average amount of judgment was totally fooled by the irritating complexity.
This is the third time I have voted for a more representational means of government. I am almost 72 now, so the odds of a fourth crack at 鈥檈r is highly unlikely. It鈥檒l be first-past-the-post for me forever, or at least until I听am past my final post.
As for sa国际传媒 Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson鈥檚 suggestion that 鈥渕illions of British Columbians sent a clear message to the NDP and Greens that their self-serving referendum was not going to be tolerated,鈥 I prefer to think that the referendum was a bloodless duel of competing ideals. We lost. The status quo won. It often does.
Still, perhaps the notion that every vote counts should and will resurface some time down the pike. I will either be looking down from my heavenly perch or, more likely, staring up from some uncomfortably warm spot. Either way, I hope to be smiling.
