Thank you to the sa国际传媒 for carrying the Associated Press article revealing that Carnival Cruise Lines has over the years been 鈥渋llegally dumping oil into the ocean from its Princess Cruise ships,鈥� dumping 鈥�26,000 gallons of grey water into Glacier Bay National Park鈥� and, in the case of Carnival Elation, dumping plastic garbage overboard. It appears that the company did everything in its power 鈥渢o prepare ships in advance of the audits to avoid negative findings.鈥�
For every illegal action of this kind by one cruise line, how many such actions by other cruise lines and shipping companies around the world go undetected? It would indeed be useful to know what, if anything, our government is doing to protect Canadian waters from illegal dumping and prosecute those concerned. I strongly suspect that little or nothing is being done.
