Re: 鈥淏uilding contained priceless marvels,鈥 April 17.

Like so many people worldwide, the flaming inferno of Notre Dame will be etched in my mind always, as one of our world鈥檚 heartbreaking catastrophes.

I have climbed up into the heart of her bell tower, laced and woven with the biggest, darkest ancient wood beams; stepped out onto the balcony 鈥 and would have embraced a gargoyle if my morbid fascination hadn鈥檛 given me pause.

I gazed at the huge, carved stone saints that seemed to float down the edge of the roof.

Our province has ravished our own ancient, old-growth giants, to send to the U.S., Asia and other points 鈥 for simple 2x4s for houses that will rot and be decrepit in 50 years. Can we not take pride and joy in helping to restore a miracle of medieval ingenuity, built to honour a creator so much more vast than us all? Its glory transcends race or creed.

What better use could a few special old-growth ancients have than to go on for the next 1,000 years and represent this corner of sa国际传媒 in the giving? I would be surprised if MP Elizabeth May had not already heard from some of her constituents on this matter.

As so many people jostle shoulder to shoulder in Notre Dame鈥檚 vast interior, whispering too loud, in awe, a voice is heard every few minutes 鈥 鈥渟hushhh, shushhh.鈥 Now we must not 鈥渟hush,鈥 when we can give a part of us to restore Our Lady鈥檚 raison d鈥櫭猼re.
