April 9: Pay the true cost of聽driving a car

Thank you, Jack Knox, for telling it like it is. Those who whine about increased gas prices are clearly ignoring the need to pay the true cost of driving a car.

My husband is retired with a small pension, and we drive a small, 14-year-old car when necessary.

We are not moaning about increased gas prices. We know that it鈥檚 long past time for everyone to share the cost of reducing fossil-fuel use.

I would happily pay twice as much for gas if our governments would eliminate fossil-fuel subsidies and put the money into real action to promote sustainable alternatives. As Knox says, we can鈥檛 give up. Our individual actions make a difference.

If I have a choice between paying more for gas and leaving a habitable world for our grandchildren, I tighten my belt and pay more for gas.
