Interesting article, but it misses the point. Then-attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould was not the prosecutor; Kathleen Roussel was and is the director of public prosecutions. Wilson-Raybould was not being asked to give SNC-Lavalin a deferred-prosecution agreement; she was being pressured to direct Roussel to give the company a DPA.
Once the case goes to trial, Roussel is free to make whatever changes in her initial response not to grant a DPA she thinks prudent. The only way that will change would be if the current attorney general, David Lametti, instructs her to change her mind now and grant a DPA, or takes over the prosecution and grants one himself.
I am not a lawyer 鈥� but I have taken courses in logic and ethics as part of my undergrad degree.
