I want to thank carillonneur Rosemary Laing for participating in the Bells of Peace on Remembrance Day. Laing rang the bells 100 times to honour the anniversary of the Armistice. The Netherlands Centennial Carillon in front of the Royal sa国际传媒 Museum was a perfect place to hear this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Only a handful of people were in attendance, but I trust that it was greatly appreciated. I stood in front of the cenotaph as the sun was going down and looked up as the carillon chimed in recognition of all the years and all the tears that have passed. It was a moving experience.
I recall my great-aunt telling me the story about being at school in Rocky Lake, Sask., when they rang the bell on Nov. 11, 1918. A powerful memory indeed.
Thanks also to the sa国际传媒 for its great stories in the Islander of Nov. 10.
