Re: 鈥淟eashes, licences for cats promoted as way to protect birds,鈥 Jan.聽20.
In defence of cats, they are ambush hunters. They don鈥檛 seek prey, they hide and wait for the prey to come to them.
An ideal place is under bird feeders, a lot of the feed falls to the ground and is eaten by birds on the ground, making them easy prey for a cat. So bird feeders should be renamed cat feeders and banned.
We have a large garden, but with the exception of a hummingbird feeder, we have no bird feeders. Over the past four years, our cat has caught two birds, one a common sparrow, the other a quail that got away, six rats, four rabbits, 10 mice and numerous invasive green lizards, and has scared away the raccoons.
