On Boxing Day, talking to my son Carl and my grandson Dorian, I told them I wanted to see one of the world junior hockey games. I was quick to say that it didn鈥檛 have to be one of the Canadian games.
My son checked on what was available, and we picked the Kazakhstan/ Slovenia game. My son鈥檚 family lives in Brentwood Bay; I live in Tsawwassen.
On Sunday afternoon, I came over for the game; my son and grandson met me at the ferry, both wearing 鈥淚 love Kazakhstan鈥 T-shirts. I looked with envy, but was handed one for myself; my granddaughters Zoe and Alyssa had made them.
The three of us had dinner together and then headed for the game. We had the best time of our lives 鈥 no kidding. Our shirts made us the headline of the game. We were shown on the Jumbotron several times. When Kazakhstan scored, TSN picked us out in the crowd. We were asked if we were from Kazakhstan. My answer: 鈥淚 don鈥檛 even know where it is.鈥
In a nutshell, we had a blast. It wasn鈥檛 cheap, but it was worth every penny.
