I wonder why U.S. President Donald Trump doesn鈥檛 like Chrystia Freeland, Canadian minister of foreign affairs.
Is it because she is a Rhodes Scholar?
Is it because she is the author of two exceptional books 鈥� that she wrote herself?
Is it because one of her books reasonably criticizes Russian President Vladimir Putin?
Is it because she is respectful in her dealings with colleagues on the challenging trade negotiations?
Is it because she is a popular elected official?
Is it because she had a successful career as a journalist before she decided to run for public office?
Is it because she appears to have a good marriage?
Is it because she appears to be a loving mother?
Is it because she is a woman?
With all of her qualifications, I never thought I would be most proud of a Canadian leader鈥檚 ability simply to behave as a civilized human being on the international stage. She doesn鈥檛 embarrass us.
