Re: 鈥淒owntown birch felled for bike lane, crosswalk,鈥 Jan. 29.
Sadly, the opportunity for a high-profile provincial-municipal project has passed us by. The felling of the big birch tree at the foot of Government Street could have provided some really positive profile for the now-infamous provincial log splitter and proof that it really was needed. After all, it is only a short legislature-owned trailer ride from the legislative compound to the intersection under reconstruction.
What a scene it could have been, the trailer decked out in colourful bunting, provincial and municipal politicians making speeches and everyone arguing about what is more important, trees or bicycles.
