Re: 鈥淢LA conflict alleged over ride hailing,鈥 Feb. 14.

Amidst the serious allegations of wrongdoing by the sa国际传媒 Liberal Party鈥檚 previous government regarding sa国际传媒 Hydro, the fleecing of ICBC and malfeasance within the sa国际传媒 legislature itself, the Liberals are now attempting to change the channel with a lukewarm accusation of conflict of interest against an NDP MLA who has been appointed to a committee to study ride-hailing.

The proposition that because the MLA in question has a relative who owns a taxi licence should disqualify him from carrying out his responsibilities as a member of the legislature makes about as much sense as recusing a Liberal MLA from a committee reviewing housing affordability because he or she might own private property. Absolute nonsense.

This desperate attempt by the Liberals fails to recognize that it probably isn鈥檛 a bad idea to have people from all walks of life and experience for these legislative committees, in order to give a full range of recommendations to the legislative assembly for its deliberation, as it is that body that ultimately makes the decisions, not the committee.

To suggest otherwise is wilful dissemblance on the part of the sa国际传媒 Liberal Party.
