It was implied that the reason Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tried to influence the attorney general not to prosecute SNC-Lavalin was to save Canadian jobs. This is total nonsense, as most of SNC-Lavalin鈥檚 jobs are offshore.
The real reason was to protect the Quebec government鈥檚 investment in Lavalin. The Quebec Deposit and Investment Fund is a long-term partner of SNC-Lavalin. The fund manages the Quebec Pension Plan. Any legal action against SNC-Lavalin would have significant financial repercussions on the Quebec Pension Plan.
It is not about jobs, it is about money.
