Re: 鈥淭ragically flawed Afghanistan remembrance,鈥 opinion, Nov. 16.
As a veteran having known many friends who were killed or maimed in a stupid war, I found William Geimer鈥檚 commentary on the tragically flawed remembrance to be a welcome bit of sanity against a backdrop of teary-eyed politicians pontificating on freedom and democracy.
There is obviously no freedom for the poor souls slaughtered in these stupid wars, whether they be bystanders or combatants on either side. I mourn them, but I am appalled by the pretentiousness that their loss is justifiable.
My father鈥檚 war against nations under the influence of a deranged demagogue or an emperor with visions of grandeur was, of course, justifiable. But he neither needed nor wanted remembrance. His horrors stayed within him.
