I don鈥檛 know former Victoria police chief Frank Elsner, nor for that matter Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps. But shortly after Elsner became chief, I had the chance to ask him about his approach to policing.
As a former municipal police-board chairman, I was impressed with his detailed reply and his community approach to policing. I can see why Helps and Esquimalt Mayor Barb Desjardins would not be quick to jump to conclusions when a question was raised about his behaviour.
The current campaign of smears against these mayors on this topic makes me question those perpetrating it.
