Re: 鈥淎 walk in the Island woods,鈥 March 24.
Ken Armour鈥檚 article on an Island walk in the woods was a joy to read. It captured the essence of walking from Victoria to Lake Cowichan on the rails to trails and the opportunities along the way. His enthusiasm for this Island paradise was evident.
He also showed us what European countries have known for centuries, that walking about your community and countryside is great for you and your community. Vancouver Island has an ideal opportunity to grow this sector of the tourism industry.
We have the opportunity to create a similar infrastructure here that will draw thousands of visitors to the Island. It is consistent with Super Natural sa国际传媒, up close and personal on foot and on bikes.
Think of B&Bs, and other attractions of this wonderful area of Vancouver Island that will open up to a new wave of tourists once we can convert the E&N Rail line to complement a wonderful local trail network up and down the Island. The route from Victoria to Courtenay, with options for side hikes on local trails, will increase the number of people staying at B&Bs, enjoying local wineries, the craft shops and farm markets as people visit our towns and villages along the route.
It鈥檚 time for our government to step up and support the tourist industries by expanding a logical walking/bike trail system.
