Re: 鈥淎rchaic dress code an affront to women,鈥 column, March 29.
The 鈥渂are arms controversy鈥 is a testament to the fact that we have nothing else significant at the moment to talk about. In this day and age, that alone is good news.
Unfortunately, that is as far as it goes. While I am sympathetic toward fair play and women鈥檚 rights in general, I am dead against bare arms and backs in the setting described. Where do we draw the line?
I have looked carefully at many of the women protesting and while most are within my bounds of decorum, others are pushing the envelope, unfairly in my view. We do not need to be looking at the colour of bra straps, nor do we need to be seeing bare backs in the working area of the legislature.
Perhaps there is a middle ground with short sleeves allowed that cover the shoulders.
I agree with our former prime minister Kim Campbell in this matter.
