Fix gas line to keep economy rolling

Re: 鈥淏last brings natural gas crunch, pain at the pump,鈥 Oct. 11.

After years of Fortis encouraging British Columbians to convert to natural gas, its vice-president of external relations is encouraging customers in British Columbia to turn down their thermostats just as winter approaches.

It seems that Fortis didn鈥檛 anticipate the recent explosion on its pipeline, nor did it have a backup plan to protect consumers here and south of the border.

Investigators have determined this was not a criminal act of sabotage. However, one has to keep in mind that there is opposition to pipelines that serve the province, as well as the recently announced pipeline to the sa国际传媒 coast.

I trust that the powers that be will resolve this 鈥渃runch and pain at the pump鈥 so British Columbians don鈥檛 continue to suffer after just getting through a devastating forest-fire season.

We need to keep the sa国际传媒 economy rolling, and we need to be smart about it.
