I was dismayed to read Lawrie McFarlane鈥檚 column. It is another case of 鈥渟hoot the messenger,鈥 in this case, the judges.
The problem for the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion stems from the fatally flawed National Energy Board process that approved it. The NEB was widely criticized for not allowing cross-examination of witnesses, for not allowing any consideration of the downstream effects of the project or its effect on global warming, for having an industry bias and for not adequately consulting First Nations 鈥 to name a few. Even Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has agreed that the NEB process has to be fixed so Canadians can have confidence in its decisions.
Any recommendations coming from this flawed process were bound to be challenged.
