Re: 鈥淎rchaic dress code an affront to women,鈥 column, March 29.
What utter nonsense for these women to claim that not showing arms in the sa国际传媒 legislature is sexist and discriminatory. Are the men parading around in muscle shirts, tight jeans and running shoes? If so, then you have a case.
As the men are not dressing in that way, these women haven鈥檛 got a 鈥 ahem 鈥 leg to stand on.
The dress code is about respect for both the place you are working in and the position. You are to dress to look professional. This is not the place to show off your latest summer dress.
Would the women appreciate a reverend showing up at a wedding in the latest summer frock? Or a judge to wear leggings and a cropped top to a murder trial? How about a funeral director to conduct your mother鈥檚 funeral in a tee, cut-offs and flip-flops? I hope not.
This 鈥減rotest鈥 is a non-starter. There is no discrimination here except in what are the proper clothes for the job. The legislature is a serious place. It requires a serious, business-like dress code. Period. And as this applies to both women and men, there is no 鈥渟exist鈥 discrimination. End of story.
Find a real cause to fight. There are plenty of them.
