The sa国际传媒 is an important local newspaper that has a reputation for sound journalism. I was therefore surprised and extremely disappointed by the editorial endorsing the current voting system.
The editor鈥檚 argument was, at best, vague and, at worst, misleading. The statement that, 鈥渂y and large we get what we vote for,鈥� is a case in point. Many conservatives in Victoria in NDP-dominated ridings have no influence on the political system, as their vote has not and does not make a difference. This can easily lead to a sense of apathy and disempowerment.
That is the last thing we need in a society that is facing many vital challenges that need to addressed by people, regardless of their political persuasion, working together.
