The recent motorcycle accident on the Pat Bay Highway was at a dangerous location. I lived off Piedmont and saw many potential serious incidents at that location. The left-turn lane into the rowing club distracts other drivers as vehicles in the fast-lane slow down to enter the left-hand turn slot.
The highway also dips at this location, then all of a sudden vehicles are stopped or crawling along due to the light at Sayward. I think sometimes we forget that we have many tourists in our area who expect a properly designed highway. Then we go throw them a curve at McTavish. No one seems to think what it is like to drive these creations at night, in pouring rain, headlights, or yes, even some snow.
Personally, if I accessed the rowing club I would carry on to Sayward, and turn around at Elk Lake. Safer for everyone.
