As details begin to be teased out, the investigation of the sergeant-at-arms and the clerk of the legislature begins to look more like a personal vendetta than it purports to be. Particularly is this so when the Speaker seems to be attempting to have his friend inserted into the sergeant-at-arms post.

It is to the credit of sa国际传媒 Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson that he refused to support the Speaker in this, though that might merely be his fear that getting involved in that way would be political suicide, both for himself and his party.

I certainly hope that the appointment of Wally Oppal to assist in this matter will quickly get to the bottom of the business. As it is, it reflects seriously on the integrity of the present Speaker, possibly seriously enough to compel the House to seek the advice of the electorate.
