Re: 鈥淚nvictus bid doesn鈥檛 mean supporting war: city,鈥 March 1.
Perhaps Coun. Ben Isitt should do some research. He would find that Victoria has a very strong history with sa国际传媒鈥檚 military.
My grandfather immigrated to Victoria in 1912 and remained a citizen until his death in 1962. He joined up the day war was declared in 1914 and fought valiantly until he was wounded and taken prisoner at the Second Battle of Ypres. His eldest son joined the RCAF the day the Second World War was declared and was lost in 1942.
Even with all he lost in two wars, my grandfather would still stand proudly (on one leg) to cheer for those participating in the Invictus Games.
Do not besmirch the memory of all those Victoria citizens who have lost their lives over the years so that you would have the freedom to declare yourself 鈥渁nti-militarist.鈥 None of us likes war, but I hope we can all agree that those who join the military to keep us safe deserve our respect and thanks.
