Amidst the pomp and ceremony accompanying the removal of the famous totems in Thunderbird Park, did anyone ask the representatives of the government when replacements will be raised?
A thoughtful government in the 1950s had the foresight to preserve some of the original poles, and commissioned respected native carvers to produce replicas. These poles in Thunderbird Park commemorated the native cultures and educated the public.
The government should do as Chief Davidson says and commission carvers to reproduce all of the historic poles so future generations can continue to see these masterpieces at Thunderbird Park.
