Re: 鈥淎ffordable housing prescribed for Fairfield bout of 鈥榓ffluenza,鈥 鈥 Dec.聽7.
I was surprised to read that Coun. Ben Isitt had suggested a private company pay for an entire building to be affordable housing in Cook Street Village. Wow, he must believe in Santa Claus, I聽thought.
Then I read he was shocked when a 鈥淐hristian鈥 poinsettia was put on his desk and he wanted the city to consider cutting out Christmas-tree lights. Obviously, he didn鈥檛 consult with the business association that pays for them.
I wish Isitt had talked with the Market on Yates before he banned their compostable plastic bags, or with me and my neighbours in Fairfield before he accused us of affluenza. We rent and we鈥檙e not rich. We also live across the way from the potential tent-city site that he considered fine for us but not for his daughter.
So far, so grumpy. The sa国际传媒 also had a photo of two councillors (Sharmarke Dubow and Charlayne Thornton-Joe) and the mayor watching as a rabbi lit a menorah. It warmed my heart.
Let鈥檚 enjoy on a dark winter the lights of Diwali, Hanukkah, Yule and Christmas.
Let鈥檚 鈥渟mell鈥 all our flowers, from the lieutenant-governor鈥檚 roses to the hardy poinsettias to our wonderful Japanese cherry blossoms. We are a city of gardens. Let鈥檚 celebrate diversity.
