Let Woodwynn tenants use McTavish School

It is disappointing that Central Saanich appears to be unco-operative in allowing residents to live on the refuge for the homeless on Woodwynn Farm.

One wonders if it is Richard Leblanc's unorthodox actions in trying to bring change to bylaws and official community plans that have aroused the ire of the community and council, or if Central Saanich is truly stuck in a NIMBY attitude. Whatever the reason, something needs to be done to alleviate the strain on the downtown area and help people to get off the streets. This plan is a great idea with such potential and seems to be an ideal solution; it's hard to believe so many are against it.

A week ago the sa国际传媒 reported that the McTavish School property is for sale and already zoned for institutional use. Has anyone seen the possibility of setting up living quarters on the former school property, even temporarily, perhaps month by month, and commuting to the farm?

This would alleviate the tenting problems and provide Central Saanich with breathing space and an opportunity to consider the potential of the development without breaking laws.

Of course, there would be costs - commuting will take planning and execution, but surely this opportunity should be investigated. Perhaps the folks who are so adamantly opposed to allowing residential premises on the therapeutic farm in Central Saanich could assist with some of those costs.
