Ellis Ross should be our聽prime minister

Re: 鈥淲e want reconciliation 鈥� but on our terms,鈥� commentary, Feb. 27.

Thanks to Ellis Ross, MLA, Indigenous leader from Skeena.

Certainly is refreshing for someone to provide facts regarding court case victories in the last 15 years regarding land claims, the blockades and what Indigenous people are striving for 鈥� jobs and wanting to break the cycle of poverty 鈥� not to mention the money coming from the U.S.-based Rockefeller Foundation to finance American protesters.

And we hear all the belly-aching from south of the border about Russia interfering in U.S. affairs.

Personally, what sa国际传媒 needs at this critical time is for Ellis Ross to run for federal politics and take on the role of prime minister.

I鈥檓 sure Canadians would have more confidence in Ross to handle affairs at this desperate time, as a respectful Indigenous person, than an apologetic drama teacher.

Indigenous youth are leading by example

I am writing to lift up Indigenous youth in Victoria for organizing actions at the legislature and beyond in solidarity with the Wet鈥檚uwet鈥檈n Nation.

The selfless work of Indigenous youth, at times putting at risk their own bodies and risking arrest, are helping us restart conversations around reconciliation.

Leading by example, they are calling us to be better. Better at respecting Indigenous rights in sa国际传媒 and all of sa国际传媒. Better at caring for the land and water. Better at keeping our word. Better at loving our neighbours.

Wherever we find ourselves in the current conversation, let us take a moment to thank Indigenous youth for their integrity and tireless work on all our behalf.

Let us listen to their voices.

Thanks to Stella Morris for聽her聽dedication

Re: 鈥淎t 77, devoted nurse calls in a day,鈥� Feb. 27.

Thank you for acknowledging the amazing career of retiring nurse Stella Morris.

We had the privilege of having Stella care for me and our daughter when she was born last year. As brand new parents, we could not have asked for a better nurse.

She was so confident and compassionate that she completely calmed our nerves and helped us feel confident navigating parenthood with this fragile little creature.

I often ask friends who have recently had a baby 鈥淒id you get to meet Stella?鈥� which is often met with a yes and exclamations of how wonderful she was.

Stella, we are so grateful for your care in the first days of my daughter鈥檚 life and wish you the best in your retirement.

Langford museum idea deserves support

Re: 鈥淟angford offers home for Maritime Museum,鈥� Feb. 25.

With a maritime heritage as rich and significant as that of Victoria, I cannot understand why Victoria city council has apparently not seen fit to lend its full support to assist in getting the Maritime Museum of British Columbia firmly and appropriately reestablished in the city core as a vital component of our provincial capital.

Kudos to the executive director and board of the museum for their unrelenting pursuit of new quarters for the museum, and for the foresight of the mayor and council of Langford for welcoming the museum to participate in a proposed major cultural centre development in that city.

The museum can now envision, in one location, the space to both display and properly store its vast collection.

A huge amount of research and effort has gone into the this development proposal. I believe it represents progressive forward thinking, and is very worthy of local, provincial and federal government financial support, as well as that of individuals and the corporate sector.

May that support be enthusiastically forthcoming!

ICBC should consider condo insurance

Hey, ICBC are you listening to the loud complaints from condo and townhouse strata councils over the huge increases in premiums for insurance. It might be time to look into this as a possible business opportunity. Isn鈥檛 this the kind of thing that got ICBC into the auto insurance business?
