The TV news has been so depressing lately that in desperation I turned to everyone’s favourite Christmas channel: the Shaw burning log.
After watching the flames for a while, I began to think:
• Is it even legal to have a wood-burning fireplace in the city?
• Look at all that smoke going up the chimney. Isn’t that warming the atmosphere with CO2?
• That looks like perfectly good sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ wood that’s burning. Couldn’t it be better used as lumber for social housing?
• And what about the poker used to stoke the logs. Did it come with a valid import licence?
• Finally, the plaid shirt. You just know it was made offshore in an illegal factory.
Knowing I was not experiencing the Christmas spirit I hoped for, I turned off the TV And went for a walk.
