Re: 鈥淰eteran councillor was the 鈥榗onscience鈥� of city鈥檚 heritage,鈥� Oct. 23.
When the developer of a new condominium project in downtown Victoria boasted that his building was 鈥淰ancouver-esque,鈥� my blood ran cold. I thought at the time: 鈥淭hank heaven Victoria has Pam Madoff on city council.鈥� Now we don鈥檛.
The city has lost the voice that stood for sensible development in keeping with the heritage, character and ambience that make Victoria special. One can only hope that the new council will recognize and respect Madoff鈥檚 contributions of the past 25聽years and continue her work, always bearing in mind that we are building Victoria. Not Vancouver, not Calgary, not Toronto.
