Re: 鈥淰ictoria, others bill oilpatch for climate-change costs,鈥 Dec. 22.
I read with disappointment that the City of Victoria sent a letter to oil and gas companies asking them to help pay the bills of local businesses that have apparently experienced losses due to climate change.
This is a polarizing and unproductive action designed to attract publicity rather than solutions.
I know several leaders in the oil and gas sector who are innovators in bringing about change to ensure sustainable development in the energy industry. They walk the talk, and many of these individuals have of their own volition offered their time and advice in consulting with political leaders of all stripes at the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government in an effort to move forward together.
If Mayor Lisa Helps had issued an invitation to meet these leaders rather than sending them a bill from behind her office door, she would better represent her constituents as a leader who truly seeks positive change for the next generation.
