Re: “Across saʴý, city halls are failing residents on affordability,” comment, April 26.
In his commentary, Chris Gardner, president of the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association of saʴý, states his case that North Vancouver’s mayor and council are failing residents when it comes to affordable housing development.
But the ICBA has lobbied all saʴý governments, provincial and municipal, for many years. And its contractors have benefited, as any bystander can plainly see, with countless completed development projects over the years. Indeed, this track record of development, with seemingly no inkling of care for affordability, calls into question this tenure of wild-west, profit-maxed, anything-goes development, which is their legacy.
So it seems to me oddly brash for Gardner to point to council interference in the ICBA’s latest round of interests, when his organization doesn’t have a recent, successful affordable-housing project to stand on.
