Re: 鈥淢illion-plus beverage containers a day not recycled in province,鈥 April聽26.
There is a concrete solution city councils can undertake to combat climate change in place of platitudes and proclamations. They could provide multi-receptacle garbage containers around the city.
Vancouver places street-corner containers that separate waste, paper and, yes, bottles. This would inspire people to discard their bottles properly. It would also provide binners with access so the bottles would get to recycling stations. As a bonus, it would keep our sidewalks cleaner, a much-needed improvement.
The Vancouver receptacles have a phone number you can call or text if the container is overflowing, as many of ours do far too often. In Holland, bicycle paths have been made from recycled bottle plastic. Come on, councillors, this is an opportunity for action, not just words.
