Re: 鈥渟a国际传媒 targets total zero-emission vehicles on roadways by 2040,鈥 Nov. 21.
聽Premier John Horgan and his government are to be applauded for taking the bold step of requiring all new cars sold in BC. by 2040 to be zero-emission. Bravo.
聽But let me add a little global context. Norway is similar to sa国际传媒: Its population is similar; it鈥檚 mountainous and fjord-riven. It鈥檚 also 15 years ahead of us. Horgan set a sales target of 100 per cent zero-emission vehicles by 2040, but Norway intends to ban the sale of internal-combustion-engine vehicles by 2025, a move supported by all political stripes.
What鈥檚 really stunning is how quickly it鈥檚 moving toward that target: In September, 48 per cent of all new cars sold in Norway were plug-in electric. Thus, while we rightly note that sa国际传媒 is taking regional leadership, we鈥檙e playing catch-up internationally.
聽So let鈥檚 be even bolder. If Norway can do it by 2025, let鈥檚 have sa国际传媒 do it by 2035 or even 2030, not 2040.
