A very interesting lesson in oil-burning that the writer of this piece of literature delivered to sa国际传媒 readers.

A few more numbers would have made a more accurate picture, such as the $3.3 billion per year in subsidies that the Canadian government gives the oil industry, making our country the leader in oil handouts among G7 countries.

Burning the 1,200 pounds of gasoline mentioned in the article would result in the emission of more than 1.5 tons of CO2, and this is not counting the impact on the environment of producing those 1,200 pounds.

We want to replace oil and coal with green alternatives not because the alternatives are more efficient or more convenient or cheaper, but because we want, we need, to preserve the environment on which we all depend.

A gradual transition out of fossil fuels would have been possible if we had just listened to what the scientists have been saying as far back as the early 1900s, but we have chosen to ignore them and we listen to the fossil-fuel companies and their political allies instead.

We have run out of time for a smooth transition, but we still have to do this, if we want to leave a decent planet to our children.
