Re: 鈥淰ictoria plan ranges from coffee cups to childcare,鈥 Dec. 20.
With their misplaced initiative to tear up the traditional flower arrangements in the public parks and replace them with so-called 鈥渘ative鈥 plants, I see that the denizens of the Victoria city council, in yet another example of loony political correctness, have struck again in their campaign to undermine the city鈥檚 cultural heritage.
The perpetrators of this nonsense are clearly uninterested in the fact that the geraniums and marigolds they are planning to destroy are very much part of Victoria鈥檚 cultural tradition, are appropriate to the urban environment, are an important element in the beauty of Victoria that sets it apart from most other cities in North America and are highly appreciated by the majority of our citizens, whose views undoubtedly do not matter a fig to them.
It is fortunate that the Butchart Gardens lie beyond the reach of the philistines at Victoria City Hall. Otherwise, our most famous regional tourist attraction would risk being destroyed, as well.
